Everyone always asks me for lavender lotions and potions. Our forte is culinary. My husband and I are both foodies...and he has created some excellent dishes with lavender!
Lavender is a versatile and flavorful herb that can elevate a wide range of culinary creations, from sweet to savory, with its distinctive floral notes. It even has nutritional benefits like Vitamin A and C!
There are three different edible parts of lavender:
Lavender Buds: The vibrant and purple calyx, or buds of the lavender plant are edible and can be used in a variety of sweet and savory dishes, such as baked goods, salads, and infusions.
Lavender Leaves: The fragrant green leaves of the lavender plant are also edible and can be used to season meats, vegetables, and even beverages like tea.
Lavender Stems: The woody stems of the lavender plant can be used to infuse oils, syrups, and other culinary preparations with the plant's distinct floral aroma and flavor.
Be aware though, that some people may have potential allergies to lavender, so use in moderation. If you have an allergic reaction on your skin to any lavender or any lavender product, you should not ingest it. While lavender is generally safe for culinary use, it's recommended to use it in moderation, as excessive consumption can lead to stomach upset or other digestive issues. It’s strong antibacterial properties can be harsh on your internal system if consumed excessively.
By understanding the potential safety considerations, you can enjoy the fragrant and flavorful benefits of lavender in your cooking while prioritizing your health and well-being.
