Now that our lavender had survived two winters, we started to think about the future and all the fun things we could do with it!
When our daughter got engaged in the fall of 2020, she asked if she could have the wedding in the lavender. Of course, we agreed! So, as soon as the snow was gone, we started preparing the property. Because the ceremony was to be held entirely outside, we had to create a flow for the guests and the different parts of the wedding. The day of the wedding was absolutely beautiful, hot, but beautiful. The entire ceremony went off without a hitch and so many memories were made.
The week following the wedding, the first of several fires began in the Northern California and Northern Nevada region. A month after the wedding ceremony the entire region was under preliminary or mandatory evacuations. We were unable to harvest all of our lavender on time that summer due to the poor air quality. Instead, we pruned it back later in the fall to ensure that the plants would continue to put their efforts in to their root system for the upcoming winter. Here is a video of the lavender in the middle of the month of fires.
