Often Referred to as "French Lavender" in North America

These plants typically bloom later in the season and produce more flowers than l.angustifolia species.

Lateral branching is common.

They are typically a sterile hybrid between the species l.angustifolia and l.latifolia.

Oil yields can be five times more than l.angustifolia, but they can have a more camphoric scent.

Some common varietals are "Provence," "Grosso," "Gros Bleu," and "Super."

Lavandula angustifolia
Often Referred to as "English Lavender" in North America

Hardy to zone 5.

Enjoyed for their sweet fragrance and often used for culinary purposes.

Flowers of this species are usually darker and keep their vibrancy when dried.

Stems are typically shorter than other species of lavender.

Some common varietals are "Hidcote," "Munstead," "Betty's Blue," "Royal Velvet," and "Melissa."
